Unravel: A Strand Debuff
Unravel is a core Strand keyword effect in Destiny 2, functioning as a debuff applied to enemies. When an enemy is Unraveled, they become susceptible to unique damage interactions and secondary effects.
Key Characteristics & Effects:

- Projectile Generation: Upon taking subsequent damage from any source, an Unraveled enemy will periodically release seeking Strand projectiles. These projectiles automatically track and attack other nearby targets, dealing Strand damage.
- Debuff Propagation: The seeking projectiles spawned from an Unraveled enemy can also apply the Unravel debuff to new targets they hit, facilitating chain reactions and spreading the effect through enemy ranks.
- Tangle Creation on Defeat: If an enemy is defeated while the Unravel debuff is active on them, they will spawn a Tangle at their location. Tangles are interactive Strand objects that can be thrown or shot for various effects.
- Visual Indicator: Enemies affected by Unravel are visually identified by swirling green Strand threads enveloping their character model.
Primary Application Methods:
- Unraveling Rounds: This is a weapon buff, typically granted by activating certain Strand subclass abilities (e.g., Aspects, Fragments, or grenade kills with specific Aspects). While active, Strand weapons apply Unravel on hit.
- Strand Subclass Abilities: Many Strand subclass abilities, including specific melees, grenades, Aspects, and Fragments, are designed to directly inflict the Unravel status on combatants.
