Samael in Persona 3 Reload
Samael is a Persona of the Death Arcana in Persona 3 Reload, recognized for its potent Dark-elemental abilities and skills focused on instant death and enemy debilitation. It typically becomes available around the mid-game.
Core Attributes & Affinities (Base)
At its initial level (Level 37), Samael presents the following profile:

- Stats: Strength 24, Magic 29, Endurance 24, Agility 22, Luck 21.
- Resistances: Strong (Resist) against Dark.
- Weaknesses: Weak to Light.
Skill Set
Samael's default and learned skills are designed for offensive and support roles:
- Mudoon: (Initial) Inflicts Dark damage with a high chance of instant death to one foe.
- Masukunda: (Initial) Decreases Hit/Evasion rates for all foes for 3 turns.
- Ghastly Wail: (Learns at Lv 39) Instantly kills all foes afflicted with the Fear status ailment.
- Dekunda: (Learns at Lv 41) Nullifies all stat penalties on the party.
- Mamudoon: (Learns at Lv 42) Inflicts Dark damage with a medium chance of instant death to all foes.
Samael is also an excellent candidate for inheriting skills like Evil Smile (to enable Ghastly Wail) or other curse/ailment skills through fusion.
Fusion
Samael is primarily obtained through Persona fusion in the Velvet Room. While specific combinations vary, it often results from fusing Personas whose levels are slightly below its base level of 37. As a Death Arcana Persona, its creation can also be influenced by the progression of the automatic Death Social Link.
Experimentation with different Persona pairings or utilizing a fusion calculator specific to Persona 3 Reload will yield precise recipes based on the player's current Persona compendium.
Strategic Application
Samael serves effectively in multiple capacities:
- Instant-Death Specialist: With both Mudoon and Mamudoon, Samael can efficiently eliminate enemies susceptible to Dark, making it valuable for clearing regular encounters and some tougher foes.
- Ailment Synergy: If paired with skills that inflict Fear (either on Samael via skill card/fusion or from a party member), Ghastly Wail becomes a devastating tool for wiping out groups of enemies.
- Debuff/Support Utility: Masukunda is crucial for reducing enemy accuracy and evasion, benefiting the entire party. Dekunda provides valuable support by removing any stat debuffs cast on your team.
Its weakness to Light necessitates caution when facing enemies that utilize Hama-line skills. However, its high Magic stat makes its Dark attacks particularly potent.
